Katie Elliott – August Athlete of the Month

Persistent. If you don’t succeed, try, try again. Katie started her journey in our community a couple times and do to life was unable to find her stride and be consistent. She kept coming back because she new the value of a solid fitness routine and how much better she felt at work and in her everyday life when she worked out.

Katie is now one of our most consistent athletes at the 5am hour. She shows up, works hard and usually brings a friend to try out class, fitness is better with friends she says! We are thankful to have an athlete with energy and the ability to have a conversation so early in the morning to help wake up our class and get everyone energized.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from? What do you do for a living/study?

I am originally from York, NE. I graduated in 2008. I went to UNK and competed on the track and field team as a high jumper. I moved to Lincoln in 2014 and started working at the Nebraska Department of Corrections. I started as an officer then in Human Resources and now as a Recreation Manager. I married my husband, Keith, in 2018. I had my first baby, Lauren, in 2018 and then a boy, Logan, in 2021 to make a family of five including my step son Nolan!

How did you find out about Lincoln Nutrition & Fitness?

My friend introduced me to CrossFit when I lived in Hastings. She asked me to join her in class so I did and I loved it. I wasn’t consistent with attending classes because of my busy schedule and I stopped going. In 2018, I decided I needed to make a change with my life and I joined Lincoln CrossFit. I had a baby and did not stay consistent with going so I quit again. I started again in July 2022 and I have been extremely consistent! I participated in the Committed Club in 2022 and it helped me be more consistent. Now I love going every morning at 5:00am and I do not struggle waking up and wanting to go every morning.

What was the biggest obstacle for you to start?

I did not want to spend the money on monthly fees and not stay consistent. Luckily, I am consistent so the money doesn’t matter.

How did you overcome that obstacle?

Staying consistent and seeing improvement in my abilities and my body.

Do you remember your first workout?

No. I probably came close to death though.

Who was your coach, how did they help you push through it?

I feel like it was Coach Erin.

Why do you keep coming back to Lincoln Nutrition & Fitness?

The people that go to the 5:00am class consistently. I have built friendships that keep me coming back. When I workout in the morning, I like to have conversations with the other members and then head off to work.

How do you balance health & fitness with a busy schedule? How does CrossFit help you with your job?

Having a good mindset. Working out everyday helps me go to work and be motivated to work throughout the whole day. When I don’t work out, I do not have energy.

What is your favorite thing about Lincoln Nutrition & Fitness?

My 5:00 am group especially and then the other members that I have met along the way. I love all parts of working out with people. They encourage me to try harder and because I try harder I am getting better results.

We are so thankful to have Katie in our community and that she shares her passion with everyone she runs into and brings them into the gym!
