Troy Schweitzer – March Athlete of the Month

Troy has been a member our community since 2016 and athlete of the month is way over do! During the winter months Troy is one of our most consistent members and he volunteers at our community events when he is not water skiing. Troy’s love for water skiing keeps him coming in to the gym and his desire to continually improve keeps him focused while he is here.

From Troy:

Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from? What do you do for a living?

Born and raised in Lincoln, NE.  Went to high school and college here.  I am a property manager for a locally owned company.

How did you find out about Lincoln Nutrition & Fitness: Home of CrossFit Lincoln?

Originally, I was a member of Cornhusker Crossfit.  After they closed their doors, and since I was commuting to Omaha for work at the time, it was difficult to drive back to Lincoln and then workout, I joined Crossfit Viral in West Omaha and was a member there for a couple of years.  After I got tired of commuting back and forth, I got a new job in Lincoln and was looking for a new crossfit gym to join.  I found Crossfit Lincoln and met with Phil and the rest is history.  Thank you Phil for all you’ve done and all you do!

What was the biggest obstacle for you to start?

When I first started I was a bit overwhelmed.

How did you overcome that obstacle?

I paid attention to the coaches, watched other athletes and learned by example.

Do you remember your first workout?

Yes, it was a classic CrossFit triplet. Burpees, thrusters and American kettle bell swings.

Who have your coaches been? How have they helped you through your first year of CrossFit?

I’ve been lucky to have many coaches throughout my CrossFit journey.  I remember the coaches being very patient and breaking things down to the fundamentals.

Why do you keep coming back to Lincoln Nutrition & Fitness:Home of CrossFit Lincoln?

I couldn’t imagine my life without it!  Crossfit functional fitness translates the best to the other sports I’m involved in, competitive waterskiing and mountain biking. Through Crossfit I have learned to be a more focused and disciplined athlete.

How do you balance health & fitness with a busy schedule? How do you stay so consistent in the gym?

I’m busy, but I make sure I block out that hour.  That hour is my time.

How does CrossFit help you with your job? How does CrossFit affect the rest of your life?

Frequently, I have to spend extended periods of time at my desk, which results in my body stiffening up.  Crossfit helps to alleviate that by keeping me limber.  I feel awake, rejuvenated and focused by consistently going to class.

What is your favorite thing about Lincoln Nutrition & Fitness: Home of CrossFit Lincoln?

The supportive, friendly environment of coaches and athletes.

Thank you for being a member of community and positively impacting those around you!
