Paige is the epitome of consistency, something she worked hard on when she switched to the ever lively 5:00am class. Everyday, she comes in ready to try new things, with minimal protesting, which has allowed more growth in her skills and strength. She’s also fully embraced the community aspect of Crossfit, building relationships with her fellow classmates that increases accountability for the whole group.
Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from? What do you do for a living/study? Feel free to add more.
I am originally from Henderson, Nebraska and then went to college to golf in Fremont. I have been a K-5 Special Education teacher for the past 5 years.
How did you find out about Lincoln Nutrition & Fitness?
When I moved to Lincoln I had started out at another gym until they suddenly closed… while looking for a new gym I had found Crossfit and was talked into giving it a try and then along the way ended up at 5 am class.
What was the biggest obstacle for you to start?
Going to class, I quickly realized that it was much different than anything that I had tried in the past and that all of the movements were new.
How did you overcome that obstacle?
By continuing to come it slowly got better, and realizing that my skills may not match everyone’s each workout. The coaches have helped me realize that growth looks different through each movement.
Do you remember your first workout?
I remember one of my first workouts included burpees over the bar… it was terrible.
Who have your coaches been? How have they helped you through your first year of CrossFit?
The main coaches that I have worked with have been Erin, Derek, and Ayden. Each of them has helped me improve in different ways as well as continue to encourage me to try skills or weights that are outside of my comfort zone even when I attempt to protest.
Why do you keep coming back to Lincoln Nutrition & Fitness?
I keep coming back for the community. There’s many days that I look at the workout and don’t want to go but I know that if I don’t go my entire day will feel like I was missing something. And I will have many texts from the 5 am people wondering where I was.
How do you balance health & fitness with a busy schedule? How do you stay so consistent in the gym?
When I first started I tried out the evening classes, this was quickly proven to be difficult with meetings after school. After a while Emily talked me into trying 5 am and going that early avoids most excuses to miss.
How does CrossFit help you with your job? How does CrossFit affect the rest of your life?
By going to class in the morning it helps me to start my day off on a good note and feeling like I have a win. I have also had the chance to work with Coach Valerie which has helped me work on good healthy life habits and become more mindful of my food choices as well as sleep schedule.
What is your favorite thing about Lincoln Nutrition & Fitness: Home of CrossFit Lincoln?
My favorite part about the gym has been the people that I have gotten to meet. They keep me accountable, and make sure to call if I decide to sleep in, but we always have a fun time in class. I have also made friendships that will last a lifetime.
