Jamie Krien – October Athlete of the Month

Jamie is the most consistent member of our gym. She was our athlete of the month back in April 2019 and since then she is the only athlete to be a member of every single committed club we have hosted (4x week average for two months, summer and winter committed club).  She has also grown so much as an athlete.

“When I first started coaching Jamie she was so strong and excelled on all the strength days, but struggled on all the cardio workouts. She met with me for a goal session and we came up with a plan. With a plan and her consistency I was confident she would call herself a runner someday…This last year she ran a half marathon and all of her cardio workouts have improved! (And she is still very strong!)” Coach Emily

Tell us about yourself..where you from, what do you do for a living?

I am from Waverly, Nebraska. I graduated from Chadron State College in Legal Studies-2014. I currently work at the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office as a Paralegal in Agriculture, Environmental, Natural Resource bureau, supporting four attorneys.

How did I find out about LNF?

I was participating at a Crossfit competition in Omaha winter of 2015. Members from CFL (CrossFit Lincoln) were in the top three on the leaderboard and were very well rounded in their fitness. I was really intrigued, so I googled CFL, and started showing up to class.

What types of workouts get you excited?

Chippers and re-testing a workout.

(chippers = a workout where you complete a number of reps of one movement before moving to the next and typically you do not repeat that movement again.)

What are things you have learned from coaches over the years?

Keep showing up, it’s the only way to get rid of the soreness.

Have fun with the workout.

Focus on the movement in front of you.

How does crossFit improve your life outside of the gym?

CrossFit has consistently helped me manage my stress and mental health.

Favorite thing about LNF?

Variety in the workouts, welcoming and inclusive atmosphere.

How have I changed as an athlete since you joined started CrossFit?

I have experienced a lot of ups and downs through my fitness journey in the last 10 years of attending CrossFit. I don’t have big jumps in my strength from when I initially started. How I manage my stress, diet, and sleep affect my workouts. I make time for a workout (even if I don’t feel like it) and modify the movement when needed.

Jamie is a joy to have in class and is very coachable. It is important to have athletes like Jamie in class who understand the long journey ahead for our newer athletes. The ups and downs that come with a fitness journey and how you have to enjoy the process because at some point the results/personal records get farther apart. She understands showing up everyday and having fun is what it takes to continue moving forward. Thank you Jamie for being a part of our community,
