Health Hacks: An Easy Tip on How to Minimize Your Screen Time

About a month ago I received an update on my phone notifying me that I had averaged 3 hours and 45 minutes on my phone each day over the last week. I was upset at how much time I had wasted!

Time is our most valuable resource, we never get back, once it’s gone, it’s gone. Those hours on my phone could have been spent with my family, connecting with friends, growing my business, etc., not to mention screen time has been proven to mess up sleep quality and cause anxiety & depression. 

I decided it was time to take my life back. I researched minimalist phones with minimal apps, call & text, and a camera. I could not find a phone that would meet my needs and finally I stumbled across the Screen Time feature on my iphone. 

If you’re looking to cut down on screen time and still want the luxuries of Uber, maps, quality photos and the ability to check the internet once and awhile, this feature opens up more quality time with your loved ones and can help take your mental health back. 

Follow these steps to set up your screen time feature on your iPhone.

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Screen Time 
  3. App Limits
  4. Turn on App limits
  5. Select the Apps you want time limits on (I spend the most time on Facebook, the News app, G-mail and Google)
  6. Add Block App after time limit is met 

As a bonus, set up the Downtime feature. The down time feature puts your phone to sleep so you’re not tempted to mindlessly scroll. I set my Downtime for 7pm – 7:00am.

Follow these steps to set up your downtime feature on your iPhone.

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Screen Time
  3. Downtime
  4. Set Downtime

It’s amazing how time can get away from us! Super simple steps like these can help us all get that time back and spend it doing things far more valuable than being on our screens.
