Trevor Bryan – December Athlete of the Month!

Trevor Bryan 2

Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from? What do you do for a living/study?

I grew up in Overton, NE, which is about 20 minutes west of Kearney. I have lived in Lincoln since 2016. I work as a territory sales rep for a construction rental company, so to keep it simple I rent and sell construction equipment. Also as time and finances allow I will purchase a home, do some updates, sell and purchase another.

How did you find out about Lincoln Nutrition & Fitness?

I believe I googled “CrossFit gym – Lincoln, Nebraska” although I didn’t know anything about CrossFit.

What was the biggest obstacle for you to start?

The biggest obstacle was myself. I had to talk myself into going many times.

How did you overcome that obstacle?

I was able to overcome my own head games because I was just disgusted with how I looked and felt.

Do you remember your first workout?

The first workout was a free trial that consisted of 3 rounds 400m run, seated pull-ups “I was nowhere near an actual pull-up” and a few pushups.

Who was your coach, how did they help you push through it?

Phil Kniep was the coach and I was so naive that as we were walking to go out back, the group class was doing rope climbs, which I thought was a spectacle to behold so I asked Phil if he was able to do that and he looked back at me with a grin and answered yes. After a month of membership I sure felt silly asking that question and I will never forget it. But for the workout he was positive and made it fun.

Why do you keep coming back to Lincoln Nutrition & Fitness?

I keep coming back because of the people, both coaches and athletes alike, as well as I keep seeing results after 3 years. Fitness is a lifestyle and not just a 30-60-90 day thing.

How do you balance health & fitness with a busy schedule?

People make time for what is important to them so when I make plans or have a hectic schedule coming up I am always thinking of how I will get the workout in. My diet on the other hand sometimes gets pushed to the bottom of the priority list which is a big mistake but nobody is perfect.

How does CrossFit help you with your job?

My job can consist of a lot of driving so sitting the majority of the day is not ideal. When I started the gym I had severe hip flexor pain that lasted for a good year into the gym but eventually it worked itself out.

What is your favorite thing about Lincoln Nutrition & Fitness?

I love the people, competitive nature, and the results of putting in the work. I have made some good friends at the gym both who are still members and some who are not. One previous member (Danelle) really took me under her wing which helped me to keep consistency in the gym, she would call me out for just standing around in the workout, and help me after class with focus work. I encourage everyone to make friends with people in gym as this is what makes this gym special to me.
