Meet Julius! Quiet, kind, and endlessly humble, he’s been a member with us for just over a year — and in that time, he’s put in the work: 225 classes attended and 44 PRs along the way. You’ll regularly find him putting in work at our noon class, steadily getting better one day at a time. We’re excited for you to get to know him a little better below!
A little background first: Tell us a little about yourself — where you’re from, what you do, family, hobbies, anything you’d like people to know about you outside the gym!
Born and raised in the Philippines, I moved to the U.S. with my family in 2011, settling here in Lincoln. Outside the gym, I’m really into PC gaming and, more recently, biking. I’d describe myself as a pretty introverted person!
1. What first brought you to CrossFit, and what keeps you coming back?
I decided I wanted to be active again and started working out at a home gym for a few months, but I wasn’t seeing much progress. A friend who used to do CrossFit recommended I give it a try. What keeps me coming back is seeing the results and progress I’ve made, along with how friendly and supportive the community has been.
2. What accomplishment in the gym are you most proud of so far?
All the PRs and new skills I’ve learned along the way.
3. What is your favorite movement or workout — and your least favorite?
My favorite is box jumps, and my least favorite would have to be burpees or running.
4. How has CrossFit impacted your life outside the gym — health, work, family, mindset?
My health has changed a lot, especially with my gout — it no longer gets triggered like it used to.
5. What advice would you give to someone who is brand new to CrossFit?
Just keep coming back, and take the time to learn the movements properly.
