October Athlete of the Month – Joe Pace

Joe is a very active member of our community, attending over 665 classes in just 3.5 years! You can also always spot him at one of our many community events, like Corn Fed Lift Off, the Adaptive Athlete Competition, Rising Tides at Pioneer Park, and of course Murph every Memorial Day. Along with his participation, he always finds a friend to join him during “Bring a Friend” week. Last, but certainly not least in this long list of accolades, he is holding on to an incredible 63-week workout streak!

Help Joe keep that streak going by celebrating him all month!

What first brought you to CrossFit, and what keeps you coming back?

Since high school I had been working out at a gym and training on my own. I was looking for a challenge and wanting to try something new.

I keep coming back because it’s one of the best parts of my day and where I can challenge myself and become a better athlete. The community at CFL is another big reason whether I am finishing a workout first or am the last one going there are people cheering me on. The Coaching at CFL is phenomenal and is something I definitely appreciate.

What accomplishment in the gym are you most proud of so far?

The accomplishment I am the most proud of is the first time I deadlifted 505Lbs. I remember when 425Lbs was heavy. My most recent heavy reps was 480Lbs for 5 reps

What is your favorite movement or workout — and your least favorite?

My favorite workout is Isabel (30 snatches for time) which I will eventually get under 2:00 minutes currently at 2:36. My least favorite workout would be Andi!

How has CrossFit impacted your life outside the gym (health, work, family, mindset)?

CrossFit makes everyday life easier. At CrossFit, you get challenged physically and mentally and that is something I really enjoy. It has also impacted my diet and I have made changes to help fuel those workouts at the gym. I think it’s super important to set a good example for your family and someday when I have kids I want to be that example.

What advice would you give to someone who’s brand new to CrossFit?

When you first start CrossFit, you are going to be very sore and some movements will be difficult. Stay active by still coming to the gym when you are sore and make sure you are fueling your body with good food before and after working out.
