Abby Taylor – March 2025 Athlete of the Month

If you’re looking for an example of dedication, consistency, and positivity, look no further than Abby! She’s the kind of athlete who shows up — no matter what. Whether life throws work, kids, or travel her way, she makes it happen, adjusting her schedule and jumping into different class times to stay consistent.

When she started back at CrossFit, she took her time focusing on technique, building a solid foundation that’s now paying off. Because of that patience and attention to form, she’s thriving — adding weight to her lifts and pushing herself in workouts like never before.

But it’s not just her work ethic that stands out — it’s her infectious smile and the energy she brings every time she walks through the door. She lights up the gym, brightens the coaches’ day, and makes our community stronger just by being part of it.

We’re so lucky to have you, Abby!

Abby, Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from? What do you do for a living/study? Feel free to add more.

I’m from Aurora, Nebraska. I moved around for a bit but came back to settle here in Nebraska. My family is all here too so it was an easy choice! I am a mom of two wonderful kiddos, 12 and 3. We are 3 peas in a pod. We love being creative together–painting, crafting, and reading. We also love taking walks and swimming when it’s warm.

I work as an IT Systems Analyst at Conagra Brands in Omaha. I love working in IT. It challenges my brain while allowing me to engage with lots of people on a consistent basis. When I’m not working, I’m usually adventuring with my kids or doing something active outside. Or potentially napping.

How did you find out about Lincoln Nutrition & Fitness?

Google 🙂 I was a member of a CF gym when I lived in Omaha but took a break for a bit. I tried a few gyms in town, but when I tried LNF I was sold.

What was the biggest obstacle for you to start?

I was so scared about being new!

How did you overcome that obstacle?

I started with a goal of consistency. I told Emily I want to get to the gym 3 days a week minimum. That’s it. No other goals. I knew that would get me into the habit of attending, but also relieve my fear of being new. If you keep coming day after day, somewhere along the way, you aren’t new anymore! Funny how it happens.

Abby, Do you remember your first workout?

Hmmm. Maybe not the first workout, but my one of my first classes was definitely a noon class. I remember thinking what a bunch of weirdos! These are my people.

Who have your coaches been? How have they helped you through your first year of CrossFit?

Main coaches have been John, Landon and Emily. Also had Austin, Aaron, Mark, Logan, Theresa, Derek.

LNF coaches are so special. And rare. It’s always great to have knowledgeable coaches. That’s the basis. But the fact that LNF coaches care and connect with members is what sets them apart. Everyone is always welcome. That environment is created by the coaches. That’s what helped me through. Knowing someone is going to be there. And be excited to see me, challenge me and push me.

Why do you keep coming back to LIncoln Nutrition & Fitness?

The people. The members and coaches. Last year I was going through a lot of huge life changes and challenges. I was looking for a community of like-minded people. I needed a solid “home-base.”  People who are growth oriented, kind and alive in life. People who want to live and thrive! Maybe it’s the burpees that wake us up. But people here are alive and engaged in life. I love that energy.

Maybe a little for the gains too. 😃

How do you balance health & fitness with a busy schedule? How do you stay so consistent in the gym?

The getting started is the tough part. Setting attainable goals is important. Motivation comes and goes.

Ultimately, having a strong reason to show up for myself is what I fall back on. I strongly believe that you prioritize what you value. I value being the best mom I can to my two kids. They can only be well and have the tools they need in life, if I model it. So the gym is a priority.

Not to get too nerdy…actually I don’t care let’s get nerdy. Research shows that the health and well-being of kids is directly linked to the health and well-being of their mom. Like, what?! I heard that and didn’t need any more of a reason to take care of me. So I take it very seriously. Could come as a surprise to many that I’m ever serious. 🙂 It’s shocking to even me at times!

I have a ton of fun working out! It makes me smile and feel confident and strong. But, I show up for me so my kids learn to show up for themselves.

How does CrossFit help you with your job? How does CrossFit affect the rest of your life?

CrossFit has taught me that I can make huge strides and see growth with consistent effort. Consistency wins over all. It doesn’t mean being perfect when you show up. But showing up consistently in the capacity you are able. Maybe one day it’s 30% another it’s 100%.

I’ve taken that mindset to other areas of my life–work, relationships, personal projects. Just keep showing up. When I question anything or feel overwhelmed, I assess the efforts I’m making. I ask–Are these efforts in line with my goals and what I ultimately want? Will this consistent action bring me closer to my goals? If it’s a yes, then just keep showing up. I truly believe it’s that simple. I’ll be forever grateful for LNF teaching me that.

What is your favorite thing about Lincoln Nutrition & Fitness: Home of CrossFit Lincoln?

Lemme be even more of a cheese ball than I already have been! I think Cheers said it best…

“Sometimes you wanna go

Where everybody knows your name

And they’re always glad you came

You want to be where you can see

Our troubles are all the same

You want to be where everyone knows your name”

And that’s LNF 🥰
